history

The diocese of Avezzano was established in the 9th century as the diocese of Marsi . On September 30, 1986, the Diocese of Marsi was renamed the Diocese of Avezzano .

The diocese of Avezzano is subordinate to the Archdiocese of L'Aquila as a suffragan .
