Alberto Alberti (Cardinal)

Alberto Alberti (* in Arezzo ; † August 11, 1445 in Grottaferrata ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the son of a Cipriano Alberti. Apparently he had enjoyed a certain education, because "he was a very learned man and a connoisseur of the Greek and Latin languages". He was successively canon of the Metropolitan Chapter of Florence , Apostolic Protonotary and Governor of Perugia . On March 4, 1437 he was appointed administrator of the Camerino diocese . The episcopal ordination donated him on October 6, 1437 in Perugia by the Bishop of Ascoli Piceno Paolo Alberti OFM . Alberto Alberti was a participant in the Council of Florence .

Pope Eugene IV appointed him cardinal deacon in the consistory of December 18, 1439 and on January 8, 1440 awarded him the title deaconry of Sant'Eustachio . On February 25, 1440, he arrived in Florence at the papal court. He was appointed legate on June 10, 1440 and was given the task of mediating between Duke René d'Anjou and King Alfonso d'Aragón . On October 24, 1442 he was back in Florence; on June 29, 1443 his return from Siena is recorded. He was elected Camerlengo of the College of Cardinals on October 4, 1444 , a position he held until his death. Alberto Alberti was one of the cardinals involved in the canonization of Saint Bernard of Siena .

Alberto Alberti died on August 11 (or 3) August 1445 in the Grottaferrata monastery and was in the Hilarius chapel. buried in the Lateran basilica in Rome. Parts of his body were transferred to the Santa Croce Church in Florence and buried there . His family had a tomb built on this site in 1573.
