Ludovico Gazzoli , also Lodovico Gazzoli (born March 18, 1774 in Terni , † February 12, 1858 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal to the Curia .

Life

Gazzoli came from a patrician family , he was the son of Count Filippo Gazzoli and his wife Ersilia Fabrizi. Cardinal Luigi Gazzoli was his uncle.

Ludovico Gazzoli began his training at the Frascati Seminary and studied at the University of Perugia, where he obtained the degree of Doctor iuris utriusque . He then received minor ordinations and began to work for the papal administration. From June 3, 1802 he was a trainee lawyer at the courts of the Apostolic Signature , served as governor of various cities in the Papal States and as an apostolic delegate .

In the Consistory of 30 September 1831 it created Pope Gregory XVI. as cardinal in pectore , this was announced at the consistory of July 2, 1832. The cardinal's hat received Ludovico Gazzoli on July 5 of that year and on 17 December 1832 he was appointed Cardinal Deacon of the Title Diakonie Sant'Eustachio appointed. From April 15, 1833 to January 20, 1834 he was treasurer of the Holy College of Cardinals . He was prefect of several authorities of the Papal States and took part in the conclave of 1846 , in which Pius IX. was elected Pope. On March 19, 1857 he opted for the titular diaconia Santa Maria in Via Lata . He was a cardinal protodeacon .

Ludovico Gazzoli died in Rome and was buried there in the church of his titular deaconry Santa Maria in Via Lata .
