William III. von Enckenvoirt (* 1464 in Mierlo ; † July 19, 1534 in Rome ) was cardinal and bishop of Tortosa (1523–34) and Utrecht (1529–34); he came from the old Brabant noble and countess noble family of those von Enckevort (in different historical spellings).

Life

Wilhelm was a close friend and confidante of Pope Hadrian VI. who appointed him on his date in office , and shortly before his death Bishop of Tortosa and Cardinal Priest of Ss.Giovanni e Paolo (1523–1534) and also as his executor. Of his approximately 100 beneficiaries, almost a third were within the pontificate of Hadrian VI. awarded; In addition to the solidarity of the country, it is certainly also an expression of the Pope's internal church isolation.

Tomb

Enckenvoirt's gratitude and solidarity after Hadrian's death testifies to the erection of a magnificent tomb for his patron in the German national church Santa Maria dell'Anima 1523–1533 by Baldassare Peruzzi and the location of his own grave monument (by Giovanni Mangoni) in the niche across from.
