Cesare Nembrini Pironi Gonzaga (born November 27, 1768 in Ancona , † December 5, 1837 in Umana ) was an Italian clergyman, bishop of Ancona and cardinal .

Life

The family of Marchese Nembrini belonged to the patriciate of Ancona since 1639 . The Duke of Mantua Ferdinando Carlo Gonzaga granted the Nembrini the right to add the name "Gonzaga" to their titles. Cesare was the son of Marchese Alessandro Nembrini, gentiluomo di Camera of the Duke of Modena , and his wife Maria, daughter of the Marchese of Trionfi.

Cesare received his education at the colleges of Recanati and Montalto before he attended the University of Bologna and received his doctorate there on June 10, 1791, Doctor iuris utriusque . He continued his studies from 1792 to 1796 at the Pontifical Academy for the Ecclesiastical Nobility .

He received a benefit from the Pironi in Ancona and added their name to his. At the beginning of 1797 he entered the service of the Curia as the house prelate of His Holiness . On January 12, 1797 he was a trainee lawyer at the tribunals of the Apostolic Signature . After the end of the French occupation of Rome, Pope Pius VII appointed him on October 30, 1800 as a relator of the Consulta . He was on February 4, 1801 co-founder of the Accademia della Religione Cattolica , he was governor of Ascoli from May 21, 1802 to February 1807. On June 5, 1803 he received the ordination and worked from May 5, 1807 to June 1808 as Governor of Campagna e Marittima . During the renewed French occupation of Rome, he withdrew to Ancona. After the restoration of the Papal States , he was a delegate in Perugia , President of the Faenza Province , Pro-Legate for Romagna in Forlì and finally Apostolic Delegate in Macerata . On October 1, 1817, he was appointed cleric of the Apostolic Chamber , Prefect of the Archives and Vicar of the Vatican Basilica .

Pope Leo XII. appointed him on May 24, 1824 bishop of Ancona and Numana. He was ordained bishop on June 7, 1824 in the Vatican basilica by the Cardinal Bishop of Albano Pietro Francesco Galleffi ; Co-consecrators were Giuseppe Della Porta Rodiani , Latin (titular) patriarch of Constantinople and vice-gentleman of Rome, and Filippo Filonardi , papal almsman .

In his first consistory on July 27, 1829 , Pope Pius VIII created Cesare Nembrini Pironi Gonzaga as a cardinal priest , he was the prima creatura of the newly elected Pope. On July 30 of the same year he received the red hat and on September 28, 1829 Sant'Anastasia was given to him as the titular church . As a cardinal, Cesare Nembrini Pironi Gonzaga took part in the conclave 1830–1831 , which Gregory XVI. elected to the Pope.

He died on December 5, 1837 in Umana (today Numana ) in the Marche as the last of the cardinals created by Pius VIII and was buried in the Cathedral of Ancona . In his will he bequeathed his library to the diocese of Ancona and his property to the poor.
