His career ended with the seizure of power because he did not want to come to terms with the National Socialists . He went to the civil chamber of the Karlsruhe Regional Court as district court director, where he stayed until his retirement.

As early as 1927 he was active as a writer. His first work appeared this year with The Ettenheim District Court . This was followed by episodes from the history of Ettenheim as well as miscelles from the past and present of the Ettenheim district , the latter together with Albert Köbele. He continued this journalistic activity in retirement. Various collections of his essays were published, in particular on the history of Ettenheim, but also the surrounding towns. He also published in daily newspapers and home magazines. In 1950 he became an honorary citizen of Ettenheim. In 1956 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon and in 1965 the Federal Cross of Merit 1st class.
