The BelAZ-7421 ( Russian БелАЗ-7421 ) is a heavy aircraft tractor from the Belarusian mechanical engineering company BelAZ . It is made in the main plant in Schodsina near Minsk .

Development history

The BelAZ-7421 aircraft tractor was designed by BelAZ in the 1970s and has been in series production since 1978. The vehicle was mainly delivered to the Soviet Union and the Eastern European satellite states. Some copies were operated by the East German airline Interflug in the 1980s. The latest BelAZ-64020 aircraft tractor model from BelAZ, which will replace the BelAZ-7421 in the product range, was presented at the 7th National Aviation Infrastructure Forum & Show 2020 in Moscow . The BelAZ-7421 is intended for towing civil jet aircraft on the paved surfaces of commercial airports . Annual air temperature values ​​from -40 to +40 ° C with relative humidity of up to 80% at 20 ° C pose no challenge to the vehicle.

Typically, aircraft tugs are heavily motorized to move the large loads (aircraft and the vehicle itself). The first version, the BelAZ-7421, was powered by a 12-cylinder V-four-stroke diesel engine of the type D-12A-525A , which is a variant of the T-34 armored unit W-2 . The engine is started by an electric starter, there is also a reserve starter system with compressed air . In 1988 a fundamental modernization took place. The result was the BelAZ-74211 version, which was powered by a more economical ТМZ-8424.10-04 engine with 312.5 kW / 425 hp. This is a V8 with turbocharging and charge air cooling and a displacement of 17.24 liters. With the BelAZ-7421, the engine torque is transmitted via a hydrodynamic torque converter to a mechanical transmission with three speed levels. Due to the compact design and the mass of up to 45 tons, this type of tractor pushes and pulls almost five times its weight. It generates the necessary traction through its own weight, the all-wheel drive (4 × 4) and the hydrodynamic torque converter, which in principle enables a certain torque increase. For the towing process, the tractive force of the vehicle is transmitted by a tow bar attached to the landing gear with a shear bolt and thus the aircraft is moved forwards, backwards or sideways.

Versions

  • BelAZ-7421 : Basic variant from 1978 for aircraft up to a total mass of 200 tons.
  • BelAZ-74211 : Modernized version from 1988 for aircraft up to 210 tons. The vehicle received a more modern diesel engine.
