BelAZ ( Belarusian БелАЗ - Беларускі аўтамабільны завод / Belaruski autamabilny sawod, in German Belarusian automobile plant , German transcription actually BelAS ) is a Belarusian vehicle manufacturer with headquarters in Schodsina . The company manufactures large dump trucks , heavy earthmoving equipment such as B. wheel loaders , concrete mixers , but also aircraft tractors or rail freight cars.
history
In November 1958, a heavy tipper for a payload of 25 tons was assembled in a factory for road construction machines in Dormasch near Schodsina. The individual parts were supplied by the commercial vehicle manufacturer MAZ . The vehicle was still given the designation MAZ-525 . Series production of these 25-ton tippers, which were now manufactured under the name BelAZ-525 , began just one year later . In 1961 the prototype BelAZ-540 with a payload of 27 tons and two years later the BelAZ-548 for a payload of 40 tons was presented. When series production of the BelAZ-540 started in 1965, production of the -525 was discontinued. In the mid-1970s, dump trucks with a maximum payload of 75 and 120 tons were developed.
A 180 ton dump truck with the type designation BelAZ-7521 was built in 1979 for test purposes. A 280 ton vehicle was also built, which was mainly used in opencast mining in Russia. In the 1980s and 1990s, aircraft tugs were also manufactured that can pull aircraft with a total weight of up to 200 tons. Vehicles with a payload of 30 to 450 tons are currently available.
In 2006 MoAZ became part of BelAZ. MoAZ exports more than 60% of the commercial vehicles it produces to the CIS countries . In 2012, the company established a joint venture in Barysaw with the Chinese company Geely International Corporation .
