Serpuchowski Avtomobilny Sawod (SeAS, English SeAZ ) ( Russian Серпуховский Автомобильный Завод ( СеАЗ )), is a large engineering company from Serpukhov in the Russian Federation .
Company history
The company was founded in 1939 as Serpuchowski Motocikletny Sawod , SMS for short (English SMZ ), for the production of motorcycles . From 1952, the company also manufactured micro cars. Most of the customers were physically handicapped. The brand name was initially SMS , from 1990 SeAS . At about the same time, the company was renamed Serpuchowski Awtomobilny Zavod .

S 1 L and SZL
The first model was the S 1 L, which was produced in small numbers from 1952 to 1955 . A single - cylinder two-stroke engine in the rear with 123 cm³ displacement and 4 HP (3 kW) power provided the drive . The maximum speed was given as 35 km / h. The SZL developed between 1955 and 1958 got stuck in the prototype stage. Both were tricycles with the single wheel in the back.
SZA
In 1958 the SZA , also written SAZ , followed, with four wheels and a canvas hood. With its flared front fenders and free-standing headlights, this vehicle resembled cars from the 1930s. It had space for two people and some luggage. A closed body was also available on request. The air-cooled single-cylinder engine had an output of around 10 hp (7 kW). Production ran until 1970.
SZD
In 1971 the SZD followed with an angular pontoon body . The single cylinder engine had a displacement of 346 cm³ . Production ran until 1990. In 1989 alone, 10,348 copies were made.
Oka
In 1990 the company began producing the Oka , which had previously been produced by KAMAZ . This was a modern small car with a front-engine and front-wheel drive . Oka later became a brand name as well. Production ended in 2008. The plant now only works as a supplier.
