Frese & Co. ( Russian Фрезе и К ° ) was a Russian manufacturer of automobiles and trucks .

Pyotr Alexandrowitsch Frese (1844–1918) founded a company in 1874 to manufacture horse-drawn carriages. In 1876 the company was merged with Karl Nellis' horse-drawn carriage workshop. The new company was called Nellis and Frese . In 1893 the company was in Frese & Co. renamed. From December 1, 1899, the company was converted into a public limited company.

In 1896 the first Russian automobile, the Jakowlew & Frese , was built in collaboration with Yevgeny Alexandrowitsch Jakowlew . 1902 began the production of automobiles with the brand name Frese . Automobile production ended in 1904. Another source gives the construction time of the passenger car between 1900 and 1908 and that of the commercial vehicle until 1914. As a body manufacturer, the company still existed after 1904.

Passenger cars

The company only produced one type of passenger car. A single cylinder engine from De Dion-Bouton provided the drive . The engine developed 8 HP from a displacement of 864 cm³ . The curb weight was given as 600 kg. The open body shape tonneau offered space for four people. In 1903 there were experiments with electric vehicles.

commercial vehicles

The trucks with one ton payload were also powered by a built-in engine from De Dion-Bouton. The engine output is specified with either 6 or 8 HP. With a wheelbase of 222 cm, the vehicle length was 320 cm and the vehicle height was 162 cm. 20 of these were made. In 1902 four of these vehicles took part in war maneuvers near Kursk . In addition, a Charabanc , an open bus , was built in 1903 on a commercial vehicle chassis .
