The Likinski Avtobusny Sawod ( Russian Ликинский автобусный завод (ЛиАЗ )), also LiAZ , in the city of Likino-Duljowo is a Russian manufacturer of buses .
history
From 1937 the wood processing industry was settled in Likino, from 1944 the Likino machine factory ( Ликинский машиностроительный завод - ЛиМЗ ).
In 1959 the plant was given its current name LiAZ ( ЛиАЗ ) and bus production began. The first bus was the ZIL-158 , which was previously built by ZIL from 1957 to 1959 . In 1961 the modernized model ZIL-158W ( LiAZ-158 ) came . The most famous bus of the plant, however, was the LiAZ-677, which was manufactured over 200,000 times . In 1975 the factory was expanded to a capacity of 10,000 buses a year. In 1976, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, the work was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor .
In 1986, serial production of the LiAZ-5256 model began , which became the most important type in the 1990s. More than 24,650 buses of this type had been built by January 2013. After the collapse of the Soviet Union , production was initially throttled due to the difficult economic situation and stopped in 1996. In 1997 bankruptcy proceedings were opened.
LiAZ has been part of the “Russian Buses” holding company since 2000 and has been part of the GAZ Group since 2005 . Since then, new models have been developed and produced again.
