MZKT ( Russian Минский завод колёсных тягачей in short MZKT ; Belarusian Мінскі завод колавых цягачоў , Minski zavod kolawych zjahatschou to German Minsk factory with wheels ) is a Belarusian vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Minsk . The company specializes in the production of heavy trucks .

history

Assembly workshop

Although the company was only founded in 1991, the roots of the company reach far back into the history of the Soviet Union . MZKT emerged in 1991 from the Belarusian vehicle manufacturer MAZ , which had a special department that exclusively produced heavy trucks for military purposes. Best-known products are, for example, the MAZ-535 , MAZ-537 tractors (each only built there for a short time, production transferred to KZKT ) and the MAZ-543 , which were either mobile rocket launch vehicles or heavy-duty transporters for tanks and missiles. With this experience, the newly founded company MZKT began to build a range of off-road special vehicles, crane vehicles , military vehicles , oil field vehicles and heavy-duty tractors in 1991 . The products are sold under the brand name Volat ( Russian Волат ). Although the demand for such vehicles in the successor states of the former Soviet Union is relatively high, only around 100 trucks are produced annually. MZKT works with companies such as B. Daimler-Benz , Deutz , Detroit Diesel , ZF Friedrichshafen and ITAG together, which supply vehicle components such as transmissions and engines.
