The MZKT-6001 ( Russian МЗКТ-6001 ) is a truck made by the Belarusian manufacturer Minski Zavod Koljosnych Tjagachei (Russian Минский завод колёсных тягачей, MZKT or МЗКТ for short ), wheeled tractor has been produced since 2009. The three-axle vehicle has all-wheel drive and is intended for military use. With the MZKT-5002, there has also been a smaller version with only two axes since 2013. In addition, a four-axle vehicle is being built as the MZKT-6002 . The brand name Volat is used for the trucks as well as the type designation MZKT-6001.

Vehicle history

The MZKT-6001 was completely redeveloped by the manufacturer and presented to the public in 2009. It is the basic model of an entire vehicle family:

  • MZKT-5002 - two-axle version for three tons of payload, developed in 2013 for the Belarusian border guard.
  • MZKT-6001 - basic version with three axes and Russian engine, today sold by the manufacturer as MZKT-600100.
  • MZKT-600130 - Three-axle version with a Caterpillar engine , Allison Transmission gearbox and 440 hp.
  • MZKT-6002 - Four -axis version with increased payload, offered in different versions.
  • MZKT-6006 - Modernized variant with 21.8 tons payload and three axles.

The basic version of the truck is equipped with a V8 diesel engine from the Jaroslawski Motorny Sawod , which develops 400 to 420 hp. An automatic transmission is also used, either locally manufactured or from Allison Transmission . The engine and radiator are located in a separate compartment behind the cab to protect them from dirt and to reduce the overall height of the cab. A similar construction was already used in the MAN gl military truck from the 1970s. The truck has ample ground clearance and permanent all-wheel drive to ensure good off-road properties. The fording depth is 150 centimeters.

For military use, the vehicle is equipped with a flatbed and tarpaulin, all side walls are foldable. It can be additionally and subsequently provided with light armor to protect it from fire and mines . The steel cabin offers space for the driver and two passengers. The truck is not manufactured as a pure chassis for special military bodies; the four-axle MZKT-6002 takes on this task. In addition to the payload on the flatbed, trailers or weapons with a total weight of up to ten tons can be attached to the truck.

As of 2018, the manufacturer is not offering the vehicle for civil purposes, although this is the case with the MZKT-5002, for example.
