Gottlieb Ludwig Wilhelm Grapow (born March 2, 1787 in Neustettin , † October 22, 1874 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general .

He was the son of the building inspector Philipp Wilhelm Grapow (1745-1830) and his wife Sophie, née Weihe († 1801).

Military career

Grapow joined the Silesian Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army as a gunner on June 17, 1808 and was promoted to second lieutenant by the end of April 1811 . During the Wars of Liberation he was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. After the war, he became lieutenant prime minister on June 24, 1815 and brigadjutant on May 23, 1816. With the promotion to captain followed on March 30, 1817 a use as adjutant of the 2nd artillery inspection, before Grapow was transferred to the adjutantage on April 11, 1818. Grapow married Henriette Müller (1796-1862) in Schweidnitz on March 11, 1816. Their son Paul Grapow (1831–1875) became sea ​​captain and commander of the covered corvette SMS Elisabeth and married Elisabeth Henriette Bertha Simon (1841–1884) in 1859. Their son Max (1861-1924) became a German admiral and on September 18, 1915 was raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility.
