The Belalakaja ( Russian Белалакая , which means as much as Striped Rock , English transcribed Belalakaya ) is a 3861 m high mountain in the Russian Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia . Because of its shape it is also called the Matterhorn of the Caucasus .
The mountain with a glacier named after him ( Lednik Belalakaja ) on the east side is three kilometers southwest of the small winter sports resort Dombai near the border with Georgia . It owes its name to several strips of white quartz up to 50 meters wide on its rock faces.
The west wall has a height of 700 meters, the northeast wall one of 1000 meters.
