Stress quotient

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The load quotient (also the degree of utilization ) a is used in traffic planning as a parameter for determining the quality of the traffic flow. It is the ratio between the rated traffic volume Q B (motor vehicle / h) and the capacity C (motor vehicle / h). It characterizes the driver's freedom of movement in the flow of traffic and is therefore used to evaluate a traffic route. The degree of utilization is dimensionless and is determined as follows:

The aim is to achieve a degree of utilization of 0.40 to 0.60. Since the different standard cross-sections have different maximum capacities, the choice of this cross-section depends on the existing or forecast traffic volume.

With a degree of utilization of up to 0.75 one speaks of unbound traffic or free travel (quality levels A to C), between 0.75 and 0.90 of bound traffic (quality level D). Values between 0.90 and 1.0 (quality level E) indicate slow- moving traffic . From a load of 1.0 there is a traffic jam (quality level F).
