Lighting concept

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the lighting concept (also called light concept ) of a staging , the light designer tries to define his view of the staged work in connection with the basic direction concept by planning the lighting design. In doing so, he must consider both content-related and psychological, historical, perceptual and, last but not least, technical aspects. He should deal intensively with the material developed in the history of design, in the form of exhibitions, art, books.

The task of creating the lighting concept is increasingly shifting from the stage designer to specialized lighting designers .

The lighting concept of a production underlines the content and the plot of a stage play. It can highlight actors and rooms or accentuate individual parts of the stage and create moods through different colors, for example. The lighting concept cannot be seen independently of the control concept. In the course of developing the lighting concept, numerous meetings are held with the stage designer involved , the director , the technical director and the lighting foreman. To do this, the lighting designer must be able to present his ideas convincingly both verbally and visually.

Depending on the lighting designer's expertise, the lighting concept can be very demanding in terms of both art and content - a good lighting designer can tell each headlight why it is illuminating exactly which area at any given point in time with this particular color and brightness . The lighting concept contributes greatly to the success or failure of a staging, since the stage lighting has a significant influence on the appearance of the stage design.

The term lighting concept is no longer only used to describe the lighting in a staging. The illumination of commercial and private interiors is also referred to as a lighting concept.
