General plan

The Bellaluna was a building complex consisting of mines and farm houses between Filisur and Bergün in the Albula valley in the canton of Graubünden . Today only the miners' building and the administration building remain ; Remnants of walls and ruins of the other structures still exist.

The Bellaluna was first mentioned in a document in 1568, when the Albula valley was the center of iron and zinc smelting. In the heyday at the beginning of the 17th century, hundreds of miners worked in the tunnels and on the blast furnaces. In 1821 a zinc furnace was built in the Belleluna. After some ups and downs, the mining industry was finally given up in 1848.

In the following years, Bellaluna had various owners. In 1903 a sawmill was built there, which was operated with the hydropower of the Albula. After the flood and fire in the sawmill, the landlady Paula Roth bought the building in 1965 and ran it from then on as an inn and guest house, known as the witch's house and the place of many bizarre incidents and legends. In April 1988 Paula Roth was stabbed to death by burglars, which caused quite a stir.

In 2012 a restaurateur bought the Bellaluna and closed the hotel.
