The Bellona - a military journal was a military journal . Between 1781 and 1787, 20 editions appeared, which were published in the Hofbuchhandlung Walthers in Dresden . The editor was a group of Saxon officers under the direction of Karl von Seidel. The magazine was named after the Roman goddess of war Bellona .
According to its own admission, the magazine had the right to publish treatises from all areas of the art of war , as well as articles on war history . The journal should also publish translations and excerpts of foreign military literature. Other thematic focal points were extraordinary acts in war, poetry, new inventions and the promotion of scientific discourse through the publication of pamphlets.
Even if the magazine could not meet all demands, its program was very scientifically oriented and modern at the time. The contributions on the history of the Seven Years' War (1756–1763) are still particularly valuable today . After the journal was discontinued in 1787 for unknown reasons, the journal Neue Bellona was founded in 1801 .
