Die Neue Bellona or Contributions to the Art of War and War History was a German military journal named after the Roman goddess of war Bellona . It was published between 1801 and 1806 by Heinrich von Porbeck on behalf of a group of Hessian officers and was in the tradition of an earlier magazine, the Bellona , which had been discontinued in 1787. The individual issues were published by Reinicke & Hinrichs in Leipzig until the Fourth Coalition War led to the cessation of printing. By this time ten volumes had appeared.
The focus of the magazine was on the evaluation of the experiences from the revolutionary wars. In it the current military literature was discussed and treatises on warfare were written. The magazine also served as a platform for progressive officers. In 1805 u. a. Carl von Clausewitz wrote his first article anonymously in the New Bellona .
