Coordinates: 31 ° 57 ′  S , 115 ° 55 ′  E The City of Belmont is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . Belmont belongs to the metropolis of Perth , the capital of Western Australia. The area is 40 km² and has about 40,000 inhabitants (2016).

Belmont is located south of the Swan River about 6 km east of Perth city ​​center . The area includes the boroughs of Ascot, Belmont, Cloverdale, Kewdale, Redcliffe and Riverdale as well as Perth Airport. The seat of the City Council is in the Belmont district in the western half of the LGA, where about 6750 inhabitants live.

The Belmont Council has 11 members. They are elected by the residents of the four wards (three each from East, South, West and two from the Central Ward). The chairman and mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
