Belron International Ltd has been part of the D'Ieteren group of companies since 1999 and is represented in 32 countries.

history

The company has its origins in Cape Town , South Africa, founded in 1897 by the glass dealers Jacobs & Dandor in Cape Town, and has been operating under the name "Plate Glass" since 1898. In 1927, the automotive glass section was first established within the company. Plate Glass bought Windscreens O'Brien, the Australian leader in automotive glass, in 1971 and continued to grow through expansion.

In 1982, Plate Glass was renamed Solaglas as part of a restructuring. In 1983 Solaglas acquired the Windshields Group and Autoglas in Great Britain and in 1987 to continental Europe through the acquisitions of Carglass NV and Aardie NV in Belgium and Carglass Nederland BV in the Netherlands. Solaglas was renamed Belron in 1990. In the same year there were acquisitions in France and Germany, two years later in Portugal. In 1992, Belron was taken over by South African Breweries , which sold its majority stake in 1999 to the Belgian group D'Ieteren , which is particularly active in the areas of vehicle sales and short-term car rental.

In November 2017, a 40% stake in Belron was sold to the US private equity investor Clayton Dubilier & Rice .

Belron Technical
