Carglass is an international company that offers services in the field of vehicle glass (new installations, repairs, claims settlement ). Carglass has been a full subsidiary of the global South African company Belron since 1987 and was created through a takeover at the time. Belron is the world market leader for automotive glass and operates under the following sales brands:

  • Carglass in most of Europe (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Netherlands, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland) as well as in the Turkey and Brazil
  • Autoglass in the UK, Ireland and Poland
  • Safelite in the USA
  • O'Brien in Australia
  • Lebeau in Quebec
  • Duro and Speedy Glass in the rest of Canada
  • Smith & Smith in New Zealand.

There are over 345 locations and 240 mobile units in Germany. There are 22 locations in Switzerland and 20 in Austria so far. In Germany Carglass employs around 2100 people, most of them in the branches. The head office of Carglass GmbH in Germany with a total of around 500 employees is located in Cologne - Godorf . Carglass Suisse SA is based in Signy and Carglass Austria GmbH is based in Vienna .

The activities of Carglass are divided into the three business areas of glazing of passenger cars (car glass), glazing of bus vehicles and glazing of rail vehicles.

Carglass is running an advertising campaign aimed at car owners having damage to windshields repaired by Carglass, with the possibility of reimbursement through a (possibly existing) partial comprehensive insurance being advertised. After the rise in insurance claims, insurance companies were considering phasing out glass breakage insurance.
