Belsunce is a quarter ( French : Quartier ) of the southern French city ​​of Marseille in the Bouches-du-Rhône department . Belsunce belongs to the 1st arrondissement (city district) and the canton of Marseille-Belsunce . The famous Canebière shopping street is nearby .

The quarter owes its name to Henri François-Xavier de Belsunce-Castelmoron , an archbishop of Marseille . He stood up for the sick during the plague wave of 1720.

The Canebière forms the southern border of the district, the Cours Belsunce limits Belsunce to the west. In the east the Boulevard d'Athènes and the Boulevard Dugommier form the border, in the north the Boulevard Charles Nédelec .

Today Belsunce is one of the socially disadvantaged areas of the city, a large part of the residents are immigrants from the Maghreb . The rapper Bouga wrote the song Belsunce Breakdown about life in the neighborhood . In 2006, 9,824 people lived in Belsunce.
