Belted plaid

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The belted plaid , the forerunner of the Scottish kilts . Initial mentions is the belted plaid end of the 16th century . The Belted Plaid was worn exclusively by men.

The Belted Plaid consists of an approx. One and a half meter wide, four to six meter long panel of fabric that is folded when it is put on and "placed" around the body. This leaves a long strip that can be put over the shoulder as a kind of sash . The kilt is attached to the sash with a belt and a fibula . The sash can be "fanned out" and then serves as a coat or cape .

Putting on a belted plaid is relatively complicated and takes some practice so that the garment fits well and does not slip with every movement.
