Belvedér
Belvedér (German Belvedere ) is a lookout point in Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic . It is located at Labská Stráň (Elbleiten) above the Elbe valley .
history
Prince Franz-Karl Clary-Aldringen had the viewing terrace built at the beginning of the 18th century. An artificial niche was used for theatrical performances and the like. It was initially adorned with a theater mask and later with the coat of arms of the royal family. The square was used for recreation and entertainment for the nobility.
An avenue connects the Belvedér with the former summer residence of Schloss Binsdorf . After the castle burned down in 1790, interest in the viewpoint was lost.
Thus the place became accessible to tourists. In 1889 a large inn opened, which was used as a company holiday home after 1945. After 1990 the property was privatized again and turned into a hotel.
view
The vantage point is about 130 meters above the Elbe and offers a view of the Elbe valley. Immediately opposite is the small town of Dolní Žleb (Niedergrund) in the deeply cut Elbe Valley. Further upriver you can see Čertova Voda (Tschirte) and Podskalí ( Ratteln ). In good weather, the view extends as far as Děčín (Tetschen).
