Benjamin Morris "Ben "achtenberg (born November 11, 1943 in Nashville , Tennessee ) is an American film producer in the field of documentary films .

Career

Achtberg made his bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1965 and his master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1967 . At the beginning of his career, from 1967 to 1968, he worked in the film business as a cameraman for the television station WHYY-TV in Philadelphia . After moving to Boston, he worked as a cameraman and editor on the Mental Health Training Film Program from 1968 to 1972. Achtberg has been a producer since the mid-1970s. For his participation in the documentary short film Code Gray: Ethical Dilemmas in Nursing , he and Joan Sawyer received an Oscar nomination in the category " Best Documentary Short " at the 1985 Academy Awards .

He is currently chairman of Fanlight Productions and The Refuge Media Project. In his documentaries he deals with topics such as “ social problems ” such as discrimination, which is strongly reflected in the Refuge film series (2013 and 2015) or the health system .

Private

On June 14, 1965 ,habenberg has been married to Emily Jo Paradies. Together they are parents of one son. He lives in Boston .
