Ben Goertzel (born December 8, 1966 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ) is an American author and researcher in the field of artificial intelligence . He is scientific director of the financial forecasting company Aidyia Holdings, chairman of the artificial intelligence company Novamente LLC, chairman of the bioinformatics company Biomind LLC, chairman of the Artificial General Intelligence Society, chairman of the OpenCog Foundation, vice chairman of Humanity +, scientific advisor to the biopharmaceutical company Genescient Corporation, consultant for Singularity University, research professor in the Fujian Key Laboratory for Brain-Like-Intelligent-Systems at Xiamen University and chairman of the Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) conference series.

Goertzel is the son of Ted Goertzel, a sociology professor at Rutgers University .

His research includes Artificial General Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Cognitive Science , Data Mining , Machine Learning , Financial Mathematics , Bioinformatics , Virtual Worlds , Computer Games, and other areas.
