The 974  m (3,196 ft ) high Ben Lomond ( Gaelic Beinn Laomainn (Beacon Peak) ) rises on the east bank of Loch Lomond . Its name means something like Leuchtfeuerberg or Signalberg . It is Scotland's southernmost munro , named after Hugh Munro , who made a list of all Scottish mountain peaks over 3,000 feet (914.4 meters) .

The 5- to 7-hour hike up Ben Lomond begins in Rowardennan, at the foot of Ben Lomond, with magnificent views over Loch Lomond and the Scottish Highlands .

The easier route to the mountain top starts at the parking lot between the Rowardennan Hotel and the boat jetty, the more difficult route starts behind the youth hostel and leads over the Ptarmigan side peak to Ben Lomond. By combining both paths, a varied circular hike can be carried out.
