Ben Rich

Benjamin Robert Rich (born June 18, 1925 in Manila , † January 5, 1995 in Ventura , California ) was an American aircraft designer. He was by Kelly Johnson from 1975 to 1991, the second director of the famous Skunk Works of Lockheed in Burbank , California. The world's first stealth aircraft , the F-117A Nighthawk , was built there under his direction . He was also involved in the development of the following aircraft: F-104 , U-2 , SR-71 , A-12 , and F-22 .

Awards

He was a member of the National Academy of Engineering and won a number of awards during his work, including the Collier Trophy . In 2005 he was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame .
