Benet Esteve

Benet Esteve , OSB , (* 1701 in Capellades , † 1770 in Montserrat Monastery ) was a Catalan composer and organist . He headed the Escolania de Montserrat .

life and work

Benet Esteve was a student at the Escola de Montserrat with Miguel López . As the head of Escolania de Montserrat , he made some changes to guidelines and tried to improve the band's musical instruments. Among other things, he acquired new violins, transverse flutes and oboes. In the course of the same initiative, Antoni Boscà built a new organ that could better accompany the chapel. In 1738 Esteve took an active part in the renovation of the main organ in the church.

One of his students was the composer Antoni Soler . Some works by Benet Esteve have survived in the Montserrat archive.
