Benguela Gully ( English ) is an erosion channel on Deception Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It runs north of South East Point in an east-northeast direction and is the site of the largest known collection of the Antarctic pearlwort ( Colobanthus quitensis ), one of only two flowering plant species in Antarctica .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named her in 2010 after the Benguela , a British factory ship built in 1897 that was stationed on Deception Island for whaling between 1910 and 1914.
