The South East Point is a headland that marks the southeastern extension of Deception Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located 1.5 km east-northeast of Fildes Point .
The British polar traveler Henry Foster mapped it during his Antarctic voyage with the HMS Chanticleer (1827-1831). The Office of Hydrography of the British Admiralty took the descriptive naming of Deception Island in 1949 as part of the survey of Deception Island carried out by Lieutenant Commander David Neil Penfold (1913-1991) of the Royal Navy .
