Benjamin Brafman (born July 21, 1948 in New York ) is an American lawyer . He has become known as a criminal defense lawyer for prominent accused.

Career

Benjamin Brafman's family fled Europe just before World War II and settled in the United States. Brafman was born in Brooklyn in 1948 and raised in a strictly Jewish Orthodox manner. He studied at Brooklyn College , Ohio Northern University College of Law, and received his Masters of Laws from New York University School of Law . Brafman initially worked as a prosecutor before opening his New York law firm, Brafman Associates , which specializes in criminal law .

Brafman became known as the criminal defense attorney for various prominent defendants. So he could z. B. 2001 as the lawyer of the rapper P. Diddy ( Sean Combs ) to obtain an acquittal in a procedure for bribery and illicit gun possession. In 2004 he served as a criminal defense attorney in the Michael Jackson child molestation trial. Other prominent clients included rapper Jay-Z and American football player Plaxico Burress . In 2011 he defended former IMF director Dominique Strauss-Kahn against allegations of attempted rape. He resigned the mandate for the defense of Harvey Weinstein in 2018.
