Benjamin Mwila

Benjamin Yoram Mwila (born September 17, 1943 , † August 17, 2013 in South Africa ) was a politician in Zambia .

Benjamin Mwila was an uncle of former Zambian President Frederick Chiluba . His politically most important time was therefore also associated with his reign. He was responsible for the finances of the investment holdings , which held shares in 40 public companies. 1968 to 1969 he was secretary of INDECO . Mwila, also known as Grand Master , was Minister of Defense under President Frederick Chiluba from 1991 to 1997. During this time, he also sat in the National Assembly of Zambia as a member of the Luanshya for the Movement for Multiparty Democracy .

On March 3, 1999, he and the Zambian Vice President Christon Tembo of Angola were retrospectively accused of supporting UNITA with weapons by the Zambia Intelligence and Security Services (ZISS) before the United Nations . In addition, UNITA in Zambia could refuel directly at the border, for which Foreign Minister Keli Walubita was responsible. The murder of the Zambian finance minister Ronald Penza is also in this context of arms trafficking and drug smuggling. Zambesi Lodge is not only the center of the diamond trade, but the runway for weapons supplies has also been expanded there.

Mwila was expelled from the MMD in 2001 after declaring that he would run for the presidential election in Zambia in 2001 . He ran for the Zambia Republic Party and got 4.92 percent of the vote. For the 2006 election in Zambia, he united with the National Democratic Focus (NDF) electoral alliance , of which he was chairman.
