Benn Clatworthy

Benn Clatworthy (* 1956 in Hastings ) is a from England originating in the United States living tenor saxophonist of hard bop .

Clatworthy grew up in England and has lived in Los Angeles since 1980 . a. worked with Cedar Walton , Lionel Hampton , Jimmy Cleveland , Roy McCurdy , Alan Barnes , Alex Acuña , Johnny Hammond Smith , Bobby Shew and Albert "Tootie" Heath . He is also a member of the Fransisco Aguabella Latin Jazz Septet , the Tony Insalaco Quintet and the Pete Christlieb Band. In 1990 his first album appeared under his own name on the label Discovery ( Thanks Horace ) with the pianist Cecilia Coleman ; 1995 appeared While My Lady Sleeps with Cedar Walton as a guest musician.
Clatworthy is a grandson of English music hall legend Gertie Lawrence. He dedicated his album Gertie, Phil, Theo & Me with jazz standards such as Body and Soul , Someone to Watch Over Me and Noël Coward's “Poor Little Rich Girl” and “Someday I'll Find You” to his grandmother.

Clatworthy is stylistically influenced by John Coltrane of the late 1950s, but also by Warne Marsh and Sonny Rollins .
