Benny Andersson's Orkester
Benny Anderssons Orkester , also known by the abbreviation BAO , is a Swedish musical group that has existed since 2001. It consists of 16 members. The group's band leader is Benny Andersson , who was a member of the pop group ABBA in the 1970s and 1980s .
Band history
After the band ABBA ended in 1982, Benny Andersson worked primarily as a songwriter, partly together with his ABBA partner Björn Ulvaeus . Among other things, two pop musicals were created. In 1987 he co-founded the folk sextet Orsa Spelmän , which also appeared on his solo albums in the 1980s. In 2001 he started his own band project, Benny Anderssons Orkester . It has 16 members, including almost all of Orsa Spelmann's musicians, and is mainly oriented towards traditional Swedish music and dansband music . Therefore, the success was largely limited to the home country.
With their first album named after the band, they reached number one on the Swedish charts . It stayed in place for over a year and was awarded platinum . Three years later they repeated the success with the second album BAO! which has been the abbreviation of the band name ever since. Andersson composes all the songs himself, many of the pieces are instrumental, and Ulvaeus is often the lyricist for the vocal pieces. Andersson himself plays the accordion and piano, Helen Sjöholm and Tommy Körberg are singers and singers of the orchestra. While the instrumental pieces predominated on the first two albums, there were more vocal pieces on the third album BAO 3 (2007). However, it wasn't quite as successful as its two predecessors.
In 2009 Benny Anderssons Orkester released the international album Story of a Heart . In the meantime they called themselves Benny Andersson Band . Except for the new title song, it was a compilation of their previous albums, newly recorded with English titles and lyrics. In addition to Sweden, it also hit the charts in Norway and Great Britain . After that they limited themselves back to their home country and in 2011 they came in first place for the third time with their fourth studio album Oklang och jubeltid and won their third platinum award. For all three number one albums, they were also awarded a Grammis , the national music award, as Dansband of the Year. A fourth award came after the live album BAO på turné , published in 2006 .
In 2012 the Orkester released the Christmas album Tomten har åkt hem and a boxed edition of their albums and both made it into the top 5 of the album charts. The band's fifth studio album was called Mitt hjärta klappar för dig . It was released in 2016 in the 15th year of its existence and reached number 2 on the Swedish charts.
