Dansband ( Swedish for dance band ) is a genre of music that originated in Sweden in the 1970s.
The music genre, dansbandsmusik ( German dance band music ), achieved greatest popularity in Sweden and Norway in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. A "dansband" is a band that plays dance music, often bugg and foxtrot . The word dansband sometimes also denotes the genre of music.
Content
The lyrics of dansbands music are mostly cheerful and often deal with love, friendship and peace. Dancing is also often taken up as a topic, as is “the good old days”.
Styles
- Historical development
Before the genre of music became really popular, jazz orchestras usually played the hit- oriented dansband. In the 1950s, interest in jazz music decreased, and Dansband, too, evolved into pop music along with general musical tastes. The bands Flamingokvintetten , Ingmar Nordströms , Wizex , and Matz Bladhs achieved greatest popularity in the 1970s. The Dansbandsgruppe Vikingarna is also known in Germany .
In the 1980s, dansbands music could be divided into two categories, mogen (Swedish mature ) and modern. The modern style of music was influenced by the rock style and was mainly aimed at the youth, while the Mogen style was preferred by older fans, the music was slower and based on Schottis , Hambo and Snoa. In the 1990s, dansband was played predominantly in the Mogen style, with a modern twist known as fräschmogen . Groups with this type of music were Blender, Arvingarna , Candela, Joyride, and Fernandoz .
- Geographical and regional differences
Dansband has different directions in different parts of the country. In the southern Swedish region of Skåne, music is influenced by country and is mostly slow. The bugg is popular in central Sweden, where the most famous Mogen bands such as Vikingarna and Sven-Ingvars come from . In Norrland, dansband is often faster and often characterized by rock music. Norrland danish band music can therefore be regarded as the most modern of the various types.
