Bugg is a social and tournament dance that is danced in pairs , there is no fixed choreography , but almost exclusively improvised . The Bugg comes from the Swing family and is very popular in Sweden . The music can be any type of pop music in 4 / 4 -Stroke be, the pace is 30-45 beats per minute . Bugg tournaments as a dance sport are coordinated internationally by the World Rock'n'Roll Confederation (WRRC).

Features of the dance

There is no fixed choreography for the Bugg. Only steps on smooth strokes are allowed, acrobatics of any form are not.

Basic man's steps

The man's steps are free but should be in harmony with the lady's step, the figure and the music. The basic principle, however, is to put the left foot on the 1st or 3rd and the right foot on the 2nd and 4th beat of the measure.

The man leads the lady counterclockwise across the room. He can use different postures, it circles him optionally to the right or left, while he can dance on the spot, to the right or to the left. He can use different types of pauses to make the performance more interesting. The arms should follow the movements in a natural way.

Basic steps of the lady

The lady takes one step on each stroke at double the speed. The lady's left foot should always be placed on the 2nd and 4th, the right foot on the 1st and 3rd beats, but it can be hesitated. She can walk forwards, backwards, or half a turn with each step. However, it is allowed to do more or less than half a turn on one leg, but not a full turn (spin). Three rotations within two rotations or faster are permitted.

The lady walks with every beat of the measure and follows the man. She can also take breaks. Because the man leads the woman, the lady improvises all the time and has to react promptly to the man's leadership. In addition, the arms are constantly slightly tense.

Rhythm breaks

The following hesitation steps are allowed:

  • Kick Ball Change
  • Round ball change

competition

In each round, including the final one, all couples will have an opening and final dance minutes together (no more than 12 couples at a time). This is done to show whether they are able to lead and follow in an impromptu dance, while avoiding collision with each other and using the whole area in an effective way. In the preliminary rounds and in the semi-finals, two or three couples (depending on the size of the dance floor) dance at the same time. The duration of a performance is 90 seconds or more until the end of the musical phrase. In the final round, each pair will appear in turn; the music can be chosen by yourself.

Special modalities for competitions

Minor characters are not allowed. The dance should be performed without pauses or breaks. Acrobatics in any form is not allowed. Any type of popular music from the swing family, from the 1960s to the present day, is played as music. The spontaneous implementation of music in dance is decisive for the interpretation. Free variants are allowed if they match the music. All figure and dance elements must be guided by visual signs, hand or body contact. Only figures with ground contact may be danced (no lifting figures).

Closing poses are not allowed. The dance direction is counter-clockwise around the center of the room. The clothes should match music and dance and suit good taste. Shoes must be worn at all times.
