The Kramburg is the ruin of a medieval rock castle in Gelterfingen in the Swiss municipality of Kirchdorf in the canton of Bern .
Location and description
The Kramburg is located on the southwestern edge of the Belpberg on a rock spur . The ramparts and the moat can still be seen today and some remains of the wall have been preserved.
history
The castle was the ancestral seat of the barons of Kramburg, who were servants of the Kyburger , but also had the castle rights of the city of Bern . It included rule over several villages, including Gelterfingen and Mühledorf . In 1355 the von Kramburg family died out and the rule fell to the Barons of Resti. Afterwards the rule came in 1373 as a legacy to the commander of the Order of St. John Münchenbuchsee. They sold the rule to Bern in 1528. After that the castle seems to have been abandoned and fell into disrepair.
