Benoît Pelletier-Volméranges
Benoît Pelletier-Volméranges (* 1756 in Orléans , † February 24, 1824 in Paris ) was a French actor, playwright and drama teacher.
biography
Pelletier-Volméranges began his career as an actor in the provinces, which was not in keeping with his tough character, and he also found it difficult to memorize. As hard as he tried to please the audience, he didn't really succeed, and that compulsion constricted him. In 1797, at the age of 40, he finally made his debut as an author with the play Le Devoir et la nature , which premiered at the Théâtre de l'Odéon .
From then on he never appeared again, but worked as an acting teacher. Among other things in the Théâtre des jeunes Éleves founded in 1799 , in which he was also a partner. In 1802 he went into business for himself by taking over the Théâtre Mareux . He used his connections to his former partners and was able to win the drama troupe of the Théâtre des jeunes Éleves for guest appearances.
Pelletier-Volméranges' pieces were very well received by the audience. In addition to the Théâtre de l'Odéon, his pieces have also been performed on other stages, such as the Théâtre de la Gaîté or the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin and of course on their own stage. His plays were often included in the programs of renowned theaters again 20 years after their premiere.
After the forced closure of the Théâtre Mareux in 1807, Pelletier-Volméranges remained active as a dramatist for a long time.
