The Théâtre des jeunes Éleves was a theater founded in Paris in 1799 , whose actors were children between the ages of five and sixteen. The first venue was located on Rue Dauphine 24, which at that time was still called rue de Thionville .

history

The first building was built by an architect named Metzinger. The small hall had two boxes on the left and right, one above the other, as well as two boxes on the side opposite the stage. The parquet shared the space with the orchestra pit.

The actor Belfort was the opening director. A short time later, Constant Tiby, who had run a theater in Geneva, became a partner. The actor Dorfeuille taught the children at the Théâtre des Délassements-Comiques , which was on the Boulevard du Temple . The playwright Benoît Pelletier-Volméranges , who was also a partner, also ran the Théâtre Mareux and had parts of the children's ensemble perform there.

The whole range of the stage plays of the time was given, from tragedies to comic operas to pantomime ballet.

At the end of 1805, Belfort and Tiby gave the theater to the actress Duport and the vaudevillist Maxime de Redon , who were only able to run the house until 1807, as the theater was prohibited by imperial orders . The troupe then toured the province under this leadership.

Louis Comte received permission to reopen the theater in 1809 and continued the tradition of child actors in this house until 1817. Then Comte was given permission to open a larger hall on Rue du Mont-Thabor, but on condition that the young actors act as shadow theater behind a gauze curtain. In 1820 Comte changed the venue again and with a stopover he found a hall in the Passage des Panorama . In 1827 the theater finally moved to the Passage de Choiseul . Comte called the theater from now on Théâtre des jeunes Éleves de M. Comte or Théâtre Comte for short . Then Comte retired in 1855 and the ensemble disbanded. In this room, however, the Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens opened , which still exists today.

Many well-known actors emerged from the ensemble. The actress Virginie Déjazet made her stage debut there in 1803. Furthermore, for example, the actors Atala Beauchêne , Clarisse Miroy , Francisque jeune , Émile Taigny and Hyacinthe came from the children's ensemble.

The first venue was demolished in 1826 and replaced by a large residential building.
