Pauline Virginie Déjazet (born August 30, 1798 in Paris , † December 1, 1875 ) was a French actress.

Life

Virginie Déjazet entered the Théâtre des jeunes Éleves at the Capuchin Monastery at the age of five , and then played successfully in the children's theaters on Rue de Bondy and Rue Dauphine . Déjazet appeared in boys' roles in the vaudeville shows , as well as in Bordeaux and Lyon, and in 1821 taught male students in the Gymnase .

From here it came to the Théâtre des Nouveautés and in 1834 passed to the Théâtre du Palais-Royal , to which it gave its most beautiful splendor.

From 1844 to 1849 she was a member of the Variétés, then appeared at various theaters in Paris, also repeatedly in the provinces and in London , and in 1859 took over the direction of the Théâtre des Folies-Dramatiques , which she renamed the Théâtre Dramatiques .

In 1868 she resigned from the stage, but returned when in 1874 she was offered 60,000 francs for a performance .

Extraordinary liveliness, wit, the talent, to be able to say decisive ambiguities in such a way that she was forgiven, and an indescribable mischievousness in her whole being made her one of the brightest stars on the Parisian stage.

Karl Moritz von Beurmann said of her: "She is the queen of the vaudevilles , the grisette par excellence, the loveliest and most amiable sinner of Paris, the wittiest and funniest salon lady in the capital."

In 1869 it received from Napoléon III. a pension of 2,000 francs.

The book Le perroquet de Déjazet contains a collection of her always apt, witty ideas .

progeny

Déjazet's son Eugène Déjazet († February 19, 1880 in Paris) became famous for a number of operettas :

  • "Un mariage en l'air" (1861),
  • "L'argent et l'amour" (1863),
  • "Monsieur de Belle-Isle" (1865)

Her daughter Hermine († December 18, 1877 ) became known through a composition and as a singer.
