Sylvie Brunel (born July 13, 1960 in Douai ) is a French economist and geographer .

Career, research and teaching

Brunel studied at the Center de formation des journalistes on which it 1981 with a Diplôme d'études universitaires générales and later with a Maîtrise in Public Law graduate . She later completed her habilitation in geography and graduated in 1991 from the University of Bordeaux I with a degree in economics with a doctorate . Between 1988 and 2007 Brunel worked at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris . In 2002 she accepted a call from the University of Paul-Valéry-Montpellier as full professor . In 2007 she moved to the University of Paris IV .

Brunel's work focuses on globalization and development cooperation . To this end, she has written various books and specialist articles, including those in the Que sais-je? .

Between 1984 and 1989 Brunel was committed to Doctors Without Borders . From 1989 until 2002 she worked for Action Contre la Faim , where she was president between 2001 and 2002. In 1991 she appointed the then Secretary General of the United Nations Boutros Boutros-Ghali to a group of important personalities for the development of Africa. In 2002 Brunel was accepted into the Legion of Honor with the rank of Knight .

From 1983 Brunel was married to the businessman and politician Éric Besson , the marriage divorced in 2009. Their daughter Ariane Fornia appears as a writer.
