Observation station
The term monitoring station is meant
in astronomy :
- Well-equipped locations for observations by individual amateur astronomers (by prior arrangement) or by astro clubs . In contrast to public observatories , such guest observatories are mostly operated by individuals or small groups, but often also cooperate with hotels or other tourism companies.
in ornithology :
- Observation stations for birds, especially migratory birds, established in the 19th and early 20th centuries. These were later called Vogelwarte , so the term is no longer used today. Observation towers , high seats and other hunting pulpits or other structures that can be used for bird watching are not called observation stations.
in earth sciences :
- Small meteorological stations ( weather stations ) or geographical and geophysical observation stations in the Arctic or the Antarctic .
