Comfort

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Comfort (from the English comfort for "convenience" or "comfort") is the comfort that is based on the presence of certain machines , objects , feelings, sensations or systems. A facility is comfortable because of its possibilities and its equipment with objects if it reduces work for people and offers them comfort.

Comfort can generally also be defined as the absence of discomfort, i.e. the absence of noticeable unpleasant sensations. It is assumed here that the person constantly compares current situations with previously experienced situations. As long as there are no discrepancies between the experience and the expectations placed on the situation, this situation is not consciously perceived. Only when differences occur are they specifically identified. Accordingly, the comfort depends on the expectations of the comfort assessor. Everyone develops a so-called comfort hierarchy . The more comfort needs have already been met, the greater the needs will be developed. The needs that have already been fulfilled are taken for granted and no longer perceived.

According to Zhang, Helander and Drury (1996) comfort and discomfort are not arranged on the axis of a continuum. According to their cluster analysis of concepts, comfort is connected with the aspect of liking, discomfort with the aspect of suffering. It is thus possible to experience comfort and discomfort at the same time. Driving an extreme sports car could serve as an example. Objectively there is a high level of discomfort compared to a limousine (vibration, noise, ...). Subjectively, the driver usually likes driving the sports car. Thus, comfort and discomfort occur at the same time.

Driving comfort

Comfort in the automotive sense is a general term for the "driving comfort" that a motor vehicle is able to offer its occupants, and is more or less pronounced depending on the type of vehicle. The driving comfort is largely determined by the coordination of the suspension (soft or hard), the driving characteristics (quietly dampened or hard and rumbling), the noise level (quiet or loud) and the equipment that makes driving easier for the driver (e . B. servo assistance for the steering, automatic u. a.) and allows the occupant a relaxed travel (z. B. comfortable seats, they are using the CATV process assessed).
