Berdorf shared history

Numerous archaeological traces show that the Berdorfer Plateau has always been occupied. The history of the town of Berdorf begins with a Roman "Villa Rustica" from the 2nd or 3rd century AD. Different dizzy spells testify to the very different activities of our Gallo-Roman ancestors.

This period of relative prosperity was followed by a little-documented period from the 5th century onwards. It is known that the village of Berdorf falls under the jurisdiction of Consdorf and in the tenure of Beaufort. Its prosperity seems considerable compared to the neighboring towns. The population only grows until the Thirty Years' War, which then rages in our countries. After this tragic episode in European history, Berdorf received the first outlines of today's village. After the reign of Louis XIV, the Austrian era brought a relative calm to Berdorf in the 18th century, the prosperity of which continued to develop.

At the end of the 18th century, Berdorf did not escape the French Revolution and its tax reform. Nevertheless, the village continues its development. New houses are being built and various shops are opening their doors.

After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the reorganization of the borders resulted in the areas of the municipality of Bollendorf on the Luxembourg side of the Sauer river with the towns of Bollendorf-Pont and Weilerbach becoming part of the municipality of Berdorf. The new city soon had a population of 1,000 in the middle of the 19th century. The construction of a railway line on the edge of the Sûre brings some prosperity to the community, knowing that this initiative is leading the first tourists to this region. The natural attractions of Consdorf, Waldbillig and Beaufort attract many tourists each year who like to rest.
