Alphonse Nickels

Alphonse Nickels (born November 11, 1881 in Berdorf , † December 21, 1944 in Bonn ) was a Luxembourg diplomat .

Life

After graduating from high school in Echternach , Alphonse Nickels studied law at the universities of Geneva , Nancy and Paris . In 1908 he opened a law firm in Diekirch , which he gave up again in 1914 to enter the service of the Luxembourg Foreign Ministry.

In 1923 he became general secretary of ARBED (United Steelworks Burbach-Eich-Dudelange), and in 1926 its administrative director. In 1933 Alphonse Nickels served as counselor at the Luxembourg legation in Berlin . After being released from ARBED in 1936, he became Luxembourg chargé d'affaires with the German government. In 1938 Nickels gave up this post to return to ARBED. He and his wife died in a bomb attack on Bonn in 1944.
