The Forest Science Departmental Library (BFF) is a departmental library of the Göttingen State and University Library . With a stock of around 130,000 volumes, it is one of the largest forest science libraries in Europe. It also includes the holdings of the German Dendrological Society eV and the Society Deutsches Arboretum eV From 1949 until the expiry of the special collection areas in 2015, the SUB Göttingen also looked after the special collection area 23, Forest Science.

history

The library holdings go back to the library of the Hanover Forest School at the Bergschule in Clausthal , which existed from 1821 to 1844. Parts of the inventory were moved to Münden together with the forestry school in 1844, after the forestry school was closed in 1849 to Hanover. When the Forest Academy in Münden was founded in 1868, these stocks were used. A second source of the library's holdings is the former library of the Melsungen Forestry School . In 1939 the Münden Forest Academy was merged into the Forest Faculty of the University of Göttingen . In 1970 the library was also relocated to Göttingen. The Forestry University in Münden was dissolved in 1939 and integrated into the University of Göttingen together with the Forestry Department of the University of Gießen . It was not until 1970 that the library moved to the campus of the University of Göttingen.

Stocks

The focus of the historical holdings is on forest and hunting literature from the 19th century. Today, the library collects literature from the fields of natural, economic, social and technical principles of forestry, forest ecology, hunting and wildlife management.

Location

This library is located west of the forest botanical garden on the north campus of the university near Weende .
