Berekua (also: Berricoa , Berakua and the suburbs Grand Bay and South City ) is a place in the south of Dominica . In 2010 it had 2,288 inhabitants. This makes it the largest location in St. Patrick's Parish .
Berekua is considered the cultural metropolis of Dominica. It is a vibrant community on the south coast.
geography
The place is surrounded by mountains: Bois Den in the south, Palmiste in the west, Morne Plat Pays in the northwest, Morne Anglais and Morne Watt in the north and Foundland Range in the northeast and east. In the slopes and valleys of the mountains lie the villages of Bellevue , Pichelin , Montine , Tete Morne , Grand Coulibrie , Dubique and Stowe . The main town Grand Bay is characterized by the main street Lallay with the largest settlement. There are also the residential areas Mabouchay , Back Street , Hagley , Wavin Banan , Powell and Beikua , which are part of the original settlement. Since Hurricane David 1979, the town had expanded to include the new settlements of Geneva , Highland , Bala Park and Bolom .
Martinique is about 40 km south of the coast .
history
The first radio station in a Dominica village was built in Grand Bay in the mid-1980s. The station is called RADIO EN BA MANGO and is operated by Man'I Dangleben .
Culture
In Grand Bay cultural heritage of Dominica is maintained. Events with Cadence Lypso music take place regularly . The Creole language and local traditions are maintained.
economy
It is mainly used for agriculture. Various root vegetables, bananas and other fruits are grown for the domestic market and overseas. There is a furniture workshop and various shops and restaurants. Souvenirs for tourism are also produced. There is a soap factory in Geneva.
